Ash waste nomads part 3

I finished painting my ash waste seekers unit this past week.
There is a part 1 and part 2 of this series as well. Click the links to see previously painted nomads and an introduction to my full army.

Ash waste seekers

This is a custom made flying unit I kitbashed out of riders from Dustback helamites and the insect mounts from Sylvaneth Spite rider lancers. Im really happy with the conversions, I think they turned out really good.
For the conversion I had to scape off the legs from the original riders of the mounts and then fill up the holes with some greenstuff. The riders actually fit really well as they are and didn’t need any adjusting. I just put a wad of greenstuff under the legs and glued them on.

I have based the colour scheme of the insects on photos of different beetles I found via Pinterest. To make them feel like desert dwellers I chose to make them a brown/sand colour. I then added a black pattern to break up the gradient a bit.

The riders I have painted using the same colours as the previous nomads. I used different clothing colours to make them feel a bit less identical. The only thing really setting them apart are their backpacks which are still duplicates so there’s really nothing to distinguish them.

Overall I’m really happy with these. I think the conversions fit well with the rest of the range. I’m also happy I’ve managed to used some different colours compared to my usual way of painting. I rarely use much brown and earthy colours so it was a challenge.

Here are some close-ups of the unit. Three riders got sniper rifles and the fourth one is the lookout carrying binoculars.

That’s all of my ash waste seekers done. Next up is the Stormcaller!
